The society

The society was founded in 1990 and now has around 130 members. The society is the responsible body of the Women’s House.

The House was opened in 1992 and has been officially recognised since 1995.
The executive committee is comprised of five women.
The management of the House, publicity work, parts of the administration as well as the financial management are carried out by the members of the executive committee on a voluntary basis.

AVAILABLE AROUND THE CLOCK

We have committed ourselves to be available around the clock. We depend on the help of female volunteers for emergency admissions outside our opening hours ( i.e. at night, at weekends and on public holidays)

In order to achieve this, a volunteer must guarantee she can be contacted by phone at pre-arranged times in order to organise a woman’s admission to the Women’s House. Our full-time female staff provide our volunteers with specialist guidance and thorough training for their on-call duty.

Experience is shared in monthly voluntary sessions. Any woman who is willing to support our work may volunteer.

A phone and a car are absolutely necessary for this work. If you are interested in what we do and can picture yourself supporting us as a volunteer, please ring us. We are happy to provide more information weekdays 9am – 5pm on 0911 72 90 08.

MEMBERSHIP

The registered society „Frauenhaus Fürth – Hilfe für Frauen in Not e.V.“ was founded in 1990 and today has appr. 130 members. People who wish to support our work are very important to us and always welcome. You can have a direct role in shaping the society’s structure in the annual general meeting. Our minimum annual subscription is currently 20 Euro.

We always welcome larger voluntary contributions and donations.

FINANCIAL DONATIONS

In spite of the government aid we receive, the society needs to self-fund a considerable amount of the Women’s House running cost.
A house where so many people live close together and where there is considerable coming and going has a high degree of wear and tear. Maintenance, repair and renovation of the building are largely undertaken by the executive committee and staff themselves. The society bears the costs for buying and replacing furniture and fittings.

Due to limited storage stage, we can only accept a limited number of donated items. However, we always appreciate the following items provided they are in good condition:

• Women’s and children’s clothing
• Bed linen and towels
• Crockery
• Domestic appliances
• Children’s pushchairs
• Toys

If you have anything else to donate, please ring us so we can discuss the collection of your item.

WORK PLACEMENT

We welcome female college students who wish to do their work placement with us. Unfortunately, we cannot offer work placements to social education students. If a work placement at the Women’s House is of interest to you, please send us your application papers!
